Drugent HC Cream
(GENTAMICIN SULPHATE 0.35% + HYDROCORTISONE 1%)
ANTIBIOTIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
COMPOSITION
One gram of Drugentâ HC Cream (0.35%) contains 3.5mg gentamicin in the form of Gentamicin Sulphate and 10mg hydrocortisone acetate.
ACTION
Gentamicin is an antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group with a broad 
spectrum of action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Microorganisms susceptible to Gentamicin include P.aeruginosa, the group klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, E. coli, Strains Proteus, etc. Maximal concentration of Gentamicin at the site of infection is reached by topical application which could not be achieved by general treatment (oral or parental).
Hydrocortisone is an anti-inflammatory agent which is effective in inflammatory conditions of the skin with secondary bacterial infection.
INDICATIONS
Local treatment of acute topical infections of the skin furunculi, abscess, impetigo, intertrigo, secondary infected eczema, as well as inflammatory skin conditions with secondary bacterial infections
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Drugentâ – HC Cream is thinly applied to the affected parts and rubbed in two to three times daily.
CONTRA INDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to Gentamicin and Hydrocortisone.
PRECAUTIONS
Topical application of corticostreiods should not be made with an occulusive dressing to large areas of the body because of the increased risk of systemic toxicity.
Corticosteroids should not be applied to ulcers of the leg and long term topical use is best avoided especially in children.
